There are lots of ways to raise money... So why is an event the right choice for your nonprofit? Event fundraising is a powerful tool to not only raise money, but foster awareness for the mission and engage the community to support the important work your organization is doing. Join us as we walk you through event fundraising principles, practices and creative solutions for today's cultural climate. Gain insights as we explore goal defining, budgeting, committees/volunteers, sponsorship, marketing and post-event work. We believe philanthropy and event fundraising should be rooted in diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging.

Instructors:

Ina de Mattos Miller is the Executive Director of the Louisville Youth Philanthropy Council, and owner of Ina Miller Creative. Ina is passionate about philanthropy, driven to creative and inspired to make positive change in her community. With an undergraduate degree in Arts Management from the College of Charleston, Ina is currently the part-time Executive Director at the Louisville Youth Philanthropy Council. With over 15 years of experience and active participation in Louisville's nonprofit community Ina is an event fundraising expert. From small to large, educational events to friendraisers, festivals to intimate dinners, Ina has been executing events in Louisville for a variety of organizations and clients her whole career. Ina ran a small event management and marketing business and currently is completing her Masters in Philanthropic Studies at the Lilly Family School of Philanthropy. An avid outdoor enthusiast and ocean conservationist, she is married with three children.

Heather Singleton, CFRE is System Director of Events and Community Outreach for Norton Healthcare's foundation offices: the Norton Healthcare Foundation and the Children's Hospital Foundation. In this role, she manages the events, special projects and donor relations team, which raises nearly $4 million annually. During her tenure with the Foundations, Heather and her team have doubled the annual event fundraising revenue. In 2020, she navigated her team through the pandemic, coordinated hundreds of donations in support of Norton Healthcare's COVID-19 efforts, while still raising over $2 million through virtual events and special projects.

In addition to her work at the foundations, Singleton is actively involved in other philanthropic efforts including serving as former President of the Greater Louisville chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) and St. Michael Catholic Church. She also serves on the board of directors for Camp MARC. She was named to Business First's 2015 Top 20 People to Know: Nonprofit Organizations, is a past recipient of the NFocus New Faces of Philanthropy award, as well as a graduate of Leadership Louisville's Focus Louisville and Ignite Louisville programs. Singleton holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Public Relations from Western Kentucky University and a Master of Science degree in Business Communications from Spalding University.
