Event Details
Rapidly changing cultural norms and expectations present organizations with unique challenges for authentic, expansive, and inclusive communications to diverse audiences. This webinar will briefly review the origins and conventions of recent linguistic additions to standard business English, such as Mx., Latinx, and "cis", as well as larger shifts in how we talk about ourselves and others. Participants will review and discuss authentic language from a variety of professional communications.
Objectives:
- Participants will be able to make informed decisions about using inclusive language in authentic ways when talking about diverse individuals and communities in their organizational communication
- Participants will understand how inclusive language can be part of an "asset framing" strategy for organizational communication
- Participants will understand where to access resources for further information about inclusive language in professional communication
Instructor:
Dr. Lynnell Edwards is Professor of English and Associate Programs Director for Spalding University's School of Creative and Professional Writing. Her publications include five books of poetry, numerous book reviews, and critical essays. She was a founding member of Louisville Literary Arts and the Writer's Block Literary Festival.
