We’ve all heard about devastating cyberattacks—and nonprofits are not immune. In fact, small to medium-sized nonprofit organizations are specifically susceptible due to their lack of cybersecurity policies and staff training. But we can change that! The good news is that there are lots of things you can do to protect your organization, even if you’re not a security expert. In this course, you will gain a basic understanding of how cyberattacks happen and how to prevent them. We will also share practical tips that prepare you to respond in case you do experience a breach.

Session 1: How Cyberattacks Happen
How vulnerable is your organization to a cyber-attack? You’ll learn about the variety of threats nonprofits are facing, common habits and practices you may unwittingly be doing that expose your organization to attacks, and the costs of an attack.

Session 2: How to protect your organization
In this session, you’ll learn about seven security categories that need your attention: Application Security, Business Continuity, Cloud Security, Data Security, Identity Security, Policy, and Infrastructure Security. Find out how to protect your organization along each of these dimensions.

Session 3: What if your organization gets breached?
In spite of your best efforts, your organization might someday fall victim to a cyberattack. In this lesson, you will learn how to prepare for the worst and what steps to take if a security breach does happen. We will close with a brief review and reflection on the entire course, leaving you with a higher level of confidence about keeping your nonprofit’s data and IT assets secure.
