Event Details

We find that many nonprofit board members – and staff members – would like to understand their organization’s financial statement better. This webinar is for them. In this two-day webinar, we will explore the basic elements of common nonprofit financial statements, covering topics such as:

· Defining the statements of financial position, activities, cash flows, functional expenses, and notes to financial statements.

· Defining assets, liabilities, net assets, revenues, and expenses.

· Understanding the three different levels of financial statements (audit, review, compilation).

In addition, we will explain how these financial statements and records can be used to determine an organization’s health, especially in times of uncertainty. In the second session we will provide more detailed information about specific financial concerns, such as:

· Accounting for contributions received

· Defining contribution vs. exchange transactions

· Accounting for in-kind contributions and contributed services

· Accounting for capital campaigns, and fund-raising events

At least some of these issues most likely apply to every nonprofit organization. If these are the issues that concern you, there are specific accounting standards to be followed to properly record and disclose these items in your financial statements. We encourage participants to ask questions about their organization’s specific accounting and reporting issues for these topics discussed.

This is a highly rated annual event is for board members, executives, managers, and senior staff who need more intermediate/advanced knowledge.

Part 2 will take place on November 5 at 9:00 AM.

Instructor:

Jeff McCaffrey, Director with Deming, Malone, Livesay & Ostroff (DMLO), providing auditing, accounting and tax services. He concentrates much of his time with not-for-profit clients.
