Building a diverse and inclusive board is critically important. And efforts to do so should generally be applauded. But if the approach is unaware or ill-informed, well-meaning people can do damage – both in the recruitment process and if a person of color actually commits to joining the board.

In this session, you will learn how to truly build an inclusive board where every board member’s perspective is welcomed, respected, and valued.

Vicki Clark is a Senior Governance Consultant with BoardSource. Based in Memphis, Vicki has extensive experience as both a nonprofit leader and consultant. She has delivered training on a variety of nonprofit governance topics to a broad range of organizations, including Boys and Girls Clubs, American Institute of Graphic Arts, Association of Professional Chaplains, Allen County Public Library, and Sangamon County Community Foundation.

Vicki also has her own consulting practice in which she helps build the capacity of nonprofit, government, faith-based, and business sector organizations through training, speaking, writing, and consulting. In this capacity, Vicki has worked with the Leader to Leader Foundation (formerly The Peter F. Drucker Foundation), Northwest Regional Educational Laboratory, Prevent Child Abuse America, Association of Junior Leagues International, Association of African American Museums, Literacy USA, and others. Vicki hosts a weekly, pay what you can, conversation series focused on social justice issues. Conversations are timely and topical and take place each Thursday.
