Whether your nonprofit is anticipating an upcoming major capital project or is midstream in a campaign, development staff and volunteer leaders will need to understand the basics of planning, executing, and completing these special efforts. Regardless of the size of the campaign or the organization or its staff, the fundamentals of campaign planning and the challenges that will face fundraising leaders remain constant.
In this course, you will learn:
- Best practices and options that you can adapt to diverse projects.
- About varieties of campaigns: Capital, Endowment/Legacy, Special Project...even Debt Retirement.
Instructors:
Tawanda Owsley is a non-profit fundraising executive with more than 20 years of experience and proven results. She currently serves as the Senior Vice-President/Chief Development and Marketing Officer, Hosparus Health which is the second largest non-profit in Louisville, Kentucky. Under her leadership, the organization's $24 million People of Compassion comprehensive campaign recently exceeded its fundraising goal nearly a year ahead of schedule. Prior to joining Hosparus Health, Tawanda served as the Executive Director at the American Red Cross Bluegrass Chapter in Lexington, KY, Market Director of Philanthropy at KentuckyOne Health, and Director of Major Gifts at Cincinnati Children's Hospital. These positions, combined with her experiences at the University of Kentucky, Norton Healthcare/Kosair Children's Hospital, and Metro United Way, provide Tawanda with a wide range of nonprofit leadership and philanthropic expertise.
Tawanda earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the University of Louisville and a Master's in Business Communication from Spalding University. In addition to fundraising, Tawanda excels at strategic planning, public speaking, leadership development, board development and problem solving. Past Board Involvement includes Transit Authority of River City (TARC), Greater Louisville Inc, Leadership Louisville Center, Louisville Urban League, Lexington Children's Theatre, Commerce Lexington, Lexington Transit Authority. Tawanda was also recognized as a Distinguished Leader in Leadership Lexington and was recognized as a Top 40 under 40 by Business First of Louisville. These skills earned Tawanda a place in the Leadership Louisville Bingham Fellows Class of 2021.
Kelly Wesley Taylor, JD.: Clients often hear Kelly say "You can do it! Now let's get started!" She lives to energize others into action. Kelly is an activator. She wants to understand the context of a situation, explain why it happened, in order to find solutions to nuanced problems. She has a gift for making the complex seem simple and works best as a hands-on trainer. Kelly also has a strong sense of commitment and is highly motivated to see things carried through to completion. Her work is a way of life, not just a job. In search of significance Kelly strives for what's exceptional, what's excellent and what's authentic. Mediocrity is her nemesis. Kelly takes risks and gladly meets new challenges. She believes that philanthropy is an expression of our human connectedness.
In her efforts to design a life well lived, Kelly co-founded Trek Advancement in 2009. Trek's guiding philosophies of good governance, solid leadership, donor-centered fundraising, and mission focused action help clients build sustainable fundraising efforts. Kelly is a planned giving nerd and uses this passion to navigate comprehensive fundraising campaigns. A talented strategic thinker and influencer, Kelly enjoys working with clients to define their strategic goals and help them create their unique roadmap for success. Kelly likes to engage in conversations either one or one or with an audience of hundreds.
